Every September, the UK marks National Eczema Week, a moment when the millions of people living with eczema step out of the shadows and remind the world that this is not just something to “put up with.” Too often, eczema is dismissed as a nuisance or an inconvenience, endured in silence and overlooked in comparison with other health conditions.
National Eczema Week is the one time each year when the community comes together to say: this matters, and it’s time for change.
A Brief History
National Eczema Week is led by the National Eczema Society, the UK charity dedicated to supporting everyone affected by eczema. The Society has been running this awareness week for many years, using it to shine a spotlight on the realities of living with eczema, campaign for better care, and provide practical support. Past campaigns have ranged from raising awareness of the mental health impacts of eczema to tackling myths about treatments and highlighting the latest research.
This Year’s Campaign
In 2025, National Eczema Week takes place from 13-20 September. The theme is “Be Prepared, Be Heard” - a call to action for patients to feel more confident in GP appointments. Many people with eczema know how rushed consultations can be. This year’s campaign is all about helping patients prepare for those conversations so they can communicate their needs clearly and get the care they deserve.
Alongside National Eczema Week, the global community will also mark World Atopic Eczema Day on 14 September. Its 2025 theme, “Our Skin, Our Journey,” reflects the lifelong nature of eczema and the importance of recognising every stage of that journey.
How to Get Involved
There are lots of ways to join in and make a difference:
-
Share your story: Post about your experience of eczema on social media, or join the conversation with the National Eczema Society. They’re especially keen to hear tips on how you prepare for doctor’s appointments.
-
Learn and connect: Take part in online events and webinars run throughout the week. These offer practical advice, the latest insights, and a sense of community.
-
Support the cause: Donations to the National Eczema Society fund vital awareness campaigns and resources for families.
-
Spread the word: Tell friends, colleagues, and schools about National Eczema Week. A simple conversation can help reduce stigma.
Why It Matters
Eczema affects around 1 in 4 children and 1 in 10 adults in the UK. Yet it rarely makes headlines, and too often people suffer in silence, managing flare-ups, sleepless nights, and constant itch with little recognition. National Eczema Week changes that. It is a chance to say: eczema is real, it matters, and people deserve better care, understanding, and support.
At Eczema Clothing, we believe that comfort, confidence, and community can make a huge difference to anyone living with eczema. That’s why we’ll be taking part in National Eczema Week 2025, and we’d love you to join us. Together, we can make eczema visible - and make sure every voice is heard.
